I hope that your Resurrection Sunday was as wonderful as ours was.  Church was full to the bursting yesterday.  But what was so neat was included in among all the people who only come once a year were all the regulars that we see every Sunday and they are becoming more and more all the time.  We also had a huge potluck yesterday after services.  There were over 100 people, and that is a lot for our little church.  We also had 2 boys join the church yesterday and ask to be baptized.  It's a little cold to go the the river yet so either they will wait until August or they will be baptized in the church in the next month or so.  Sounds crazy but since our church is so close to the river every August, we have a service at the river.  We all take food and eat and then go down to the river an watch them.  Usually singing "Shall We Gather at the River!"   Right now there is still some ice floating so waiting until August usually prevents hypothermia...

Well, we got our first gardening magazine of the year today.  DD8 took it upstairs to her room and wrote down all the things she wanted to order and plant.  We discovered that we live in zone 5 and that our growing season only runs about 100 days give or take,  She actually made a great list.  Told me that she tried to stay away from hybrids but wanted to get some blueberry bushes, a peach tree and some raspberries.  I thought this was a great idea but we don't own this house.  But after looking at the mag we discovered that the blueberries did well in containers, so I thought that that might just work.  She has a very optimistic list, but then she also has a green thumb.  Mine is definitely brown around the edges.  Since our growing season isn't until May, we have a few days to decide.  But, I think we will look into starting them in April so they are a decent size to plant in May.  I think we might also use this as a homeschool project.  She is currently studying the parts of a flower/plant so this will fit right in.  We are still planning to head to the local nursery to see what kind of seeds they have.  I know this sounds awful but I don't want to invest that much money into this, I want to use what we have.  I don't want my squash to have cost me $10 a piece.  Esp, because what ever we put in will stay whenever we move.  I just want to use the existing flower beds plus there is a spot that looked like it had a small garden at one time.  Just try it and see how it goes, no fuss, no muss...  Now, if the snow would go away....  Maybe in another month or two, we even got a few more inches today. 

If we stay here, there are a few projects that I would like to do by summer.  I have asked DH to put up a clothes line after the snow melts.  This will help lower our electric & nat gas bills.  Our dryer is gas but requires electric to keep it running.  It is also very dry here so clothes should dry in no time.  I am also looking into putting in a garden this summer.  Most of our yard is rock covered but there are flower beds along each side of the house.  I am going to use them for a few things.  I have to research things a little more.  In TX we could grow pretty much anything depending on the time of the year.  Here the growing season is from the end of May to September and that is it.  There is a local gardening center that I am going to look at to see what kind of seeds they have.  It is still to early for me to start seeds but I want to be ready.  We also have 3 producing apple trees as well as a cherry, plum and a fig.  I want to beat the birds to the fruit this year and put some of it up.  I am also toying with the idea of asking our landlord if we can build a small chicken coop and have a few hens.  I would then not have to throw my scraps in the trash.  We are advised not to have compost piles here because of the mice carrying the hanta virus.  They say that compost attracts them.  I know we can have chickens in our neighborhood because we have a neighbor with a loud rooster.  I don't want a rooster, maybe 4 to 6 hens for eggs.  Then I could do away with paying the high price for them.  We would have to supplement with some feed I am sure but these eggs would be much healthier.
